A Love Story in EmoticonsStoryteller and poet Rives tells a three-minute love story with a twist — it’s all done with emoticons. A very clever video presentation given at TED, worth a watch. Rives is a regular on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and starts in the Bravo special “Ironic Iconic America.” Google Goggles for AndroidGoogle has done some interesting things with mobile search in the past year, introducing voice search and local search using the location awareness capabilities of today’s smartphones. Today, they are introducing visual search called Google Goggles. Google Goggles let’s you take a picture of something, and Google will do a quick search that tells you more whatever you were looking at. Obviously, it won’t work for everything, but it does have fairly broad application. They provide examples of how you can use it for looking up information about a landmark, artwork, bottle of wine, brand, book, contact info (i.e. a business card) or place.

It’s one of those questions that just never seems to go away….”Who has blocked me on [insert your favorite instant messenger program here]?” My answer is short and sweet – you can’t know, you’ll never know, and your contacts have their right to privacy. That last bit alone is enough to generate quite a heated debate as I recently found out – but I’ll spare you the details. More importantly – trying to find out who has blocked you can compromise your computer’s security and infect you will all kinds of malware and viruses you never imagined – and it’s not going to yield any accurate information.

Blackberry users throughout North America faced long delays receiving email on their devices this Thursday. Research In Motion said they were aware of the problem and that engineers were working to solve it as soon as possible. RIM noted that customers could still make and receive phone calls, text messages and browse the Internet.
Yahoo has released an update to Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone. Version 1.3 fixes some bugs, adds support for several languages and adds some nice new features.
